The Role
Are you a driven Planning Consultant or Senior level Planner or above and seeking a new challenge within a well-established and progressive planning consultancy?
As an Associate Consultant, you’ll take a leading role in managing a case load of planning applications and appeals from inception through to determination.
Working predominantly remotely, you will be provided with a laptop and offered professional and technical support. You will be expected to manage your time efficiently and professionally whilst keeping detailed time sheets recording work undertaken and hours spent on individual projects.
Part time positions available to suit retired / semi-retired town planners and those with additional working capacity.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage a variety of planning applications, appeals from inception to determination.
- Submit and monitor a varied caseload of planning applications within agreed target deadlines.
- Confidently and professionally handle LPA negotiations.
- Provide clear, honest and professional planning advice to clients.
- Coordinate within a team of multidisciplinary professionals from associated disciplines including heritage, highways, ecology and arboriculture.
- Prepare high-quality planning documents, including planning and appeal statements using the company formatted templates provided.
- Contribute to business development through client engagement, networking, and preparation of proposals.
- Preparing and presenting presentations to planning committees and at appeals where required.
- Attend site visits, pre-app meetings and other consultations as required.
- Be willing to offer assistance and guidance to junior colleagues.
Ideally the succesful candidate will
- Be a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
- Have minimum of five years’ post-qualification experience within the planning industry, gained at Local authority level and/or within the private sector.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in client liaison and stakeholder engagement.
- Have strong project management, report writing and negotiation skills with a solid understanding of UK planning policy and processes.
- Keep abreast of updates in planning legislation and the implications on the planning industry and individual development proposals.
- Take a positive approach to development, with a keenness to seek to find planning solutions for the clients’ development ambitions.
