Yellow Star testimonials and reviews

Our experience with H&A was absolutely fantastic. We had a belligerent neighbour who obtained an outrageous planning consent for 3no terrace houses in their back garden.

We appointed H&A to provide an Objection Statement on behalf of the 14 affected residents. The Planning application was refused at committee level but the applicant appealed hence we approached H&A again for another statement for the Appeals inspectorate. Gladly, the appeal was vehemently dismissed in a relatively short period of time. H&A's personable and supportive approach was exemplary, they were always available on the phone to answer any queries and always responded promptly to any written correspondence.

As an Architect with circa 30 years experience, I have worked with numerous Planning consultants hence I am familiar with  the standard quality of service. However, H&A 'raised the bar' hence we would definitely recommend them to others.

I had a great experience working with Horne Associates while obtaining planning permission. From start to finish, the team was professional, knowledgeable, and extremely supportive throughout the whole process.

They guided me through every step, explained everything clearly, and handled the application with real expertise. What could have been a stressful process was made much easier thanks to their experience and attention to detail.

I’m very pleased with the outcome and grateful for their help in achieving planning permission. I would highly recommend Derek Horne Associates to anyone needing planning advice or support.

Mr M Malik
Amberberry Investments Limited

Oliver has been an amazing planning consultant for us. After more than four years of working with different planning consultants, Oliver was the one who finally helped us secure our planning approval. He is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and consistently goes above and beyond expectations to help achieve your goals.

Denise has also been fantastic, guiding us throughout the entire process and providing support at every stage. We’re very grateful to both of them and highly recommend Horne & Associates.

Mr & Mrs R Evans

Derek’s experience is broad and deep. He is a good communicator, thorough, thinks outside of the box and works hard to meet his client’s needs. He has been an invaluable asset in many of the successful cases I have done over the last 20 years.

We were absolutely delighted with your professionalism, understanding and patience in achieving the outstanding positive result. Thank you so very much.

Ringo Starr (Sir Richard Starkey, MBE) and Barbara Bach (Lady Starkey)

I have used Horne & Associates as my planning consultants for over the last twenty years and I have found them to be high achievers in all my dealings and problems with the various planning authorities.  The facts are that Horne & Associates has always obtained the planning permissions that I have required. In addition, they have represented a number of appeals for us, all of which they have won.

I would be comfortable in recommending Horne & Associates to anyone in liaising with the Planning Authorities with the objective of a positive result.

Jacqui Shilton
Shilton Properties

I had an excellent experience working with Horne & Associates on my self-build planning application and subsequent appeal in London. From the outset, their team demonstrated a deep understanding of the planning system and handled a particularly complex case including protected trees, heritage buildings, unusual access and a completely unaccommodating council with professionalism and clarity.

Their guidance throughout the process was invaluable, they were proactive, detail-oriented, and always took the time to explain each step clearly.
When the application faced challenges, their expertise and strategic approach during the appeal made a huge difference. I struggle to count how many documents needed to be collated! I would highly recommend the team at Horne & Associates to anyone needing expert planning advice, especially for complex or high-stakes projects

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are our typical clients?

Horne & Associates work with a wide range of clients, including property developers, landowners, investors, architects and planning professionals, businesses expanding or redeveloping premises, educational institutions and private homeowners undertaking improvement projects.

Can we help if planning permission has been refused?

If your permission was refused, we assess the reasons for refusal and advise on the most effective next step. Options include; preparing a revised planning application that addresses the reasons for refusal or submitting a planning appeal to the Planning Inspectorate. Our team has extensive experience in resolving planning and development issues by way of negotiation and in representing clients in planning appeals.

How are your costs and fees structured?

Fees depend on the scale, complexity, and type of project and can either be a fixed up-front fee, an hourly rate, or a combination of the two. Typical factors affecting overall cost include size and type of development, planning constraints affecting the site, the requirement of any additional specialist reports and whether an appeal process is needed. We provide clear, transparent fee proposals before any work begins, so clients understand the scope and costs involved.

Can Horne & Associates manage complex development schemes?

Yes. We are specialists in coordinating and managing the full planning process for your project. This often includes: planning strategy and feasibility advice, preparation and submission of planning applications, coordination with specialist consultants, negotiations with planning authorities and community engagement strategies. We regularly assemble teams of specialists tailored to the specific requirements of the project, including (inter alia) architects, highways consultants, heritage experts, arboriculture consultants, drainage engineers and environmental consultants.

What is your track record in securing planning approvals and successful appeals?

Our track record in securing planning permission for our clients is exemplary. We focus on front loading our planning application submissions with a robust planning strategy and detailed preparation, thereby significantly improving the likelihood of approval at application stage. We have extensive experience working with local authorities across the UK and, where needed, representing clients in planning appeals. Our honest work ethos and extensive experience enables us to provide realistic advice on the likelihood of success before proceeding on undertaking a project on behalf of a client.
